So, this has been a long time coming. We've had bits of scattered guides before but now, for the first time, is an actual real guide to EVERYTHING you need to get going. We may add more to this later for sound effects and music but for now, this will be enough to get anyone, and I mean anyone, in on the fun.

1. Select a story and pull it up.

Whether it's your own piece or a story that someone else wrote that you've got permission to record, have the text pulled up in front of you and ready to go.

2. Download Audacity

Go to http://audacity.sourceforge.net/(12+) and click the Download tab.

3. Select the most stable build for your operating system

4. Select the executable installer (step may be different on Macintosh)

5. The download should start. If it does not, select the direct link highlighted.

6. Select "Save"

7. Save to Desktop

8. Find the icon and double click it

9. Select "Run" if asked

10. Click "Next"

11. Select "I accept the agreement" and click "Next"

12. Click "Next"

13. Click "Next"

14. Say yes to both options and click "Next"

15. Click "Install"

16. Choose "Launch Audacity" and click "Finish"

17. You now have a new project file. Clicking record (Red dot button) will start recording. Start reading. If you make a mistake, make note of what time you made the error. We'll fix it later.

YOU MUST START YOUR RECORDING WITH THE FOLLOWING OR IT WILL BE REJECTED:

QUOTE
Welcome to the Harry Potter fan fiction dot com podcast. The following story is based around characters created by JK Rowling. The author of the following story and the website providing it have no connection to JK rowling, scholastic books, bloomsbury publishing, or AOL time warner incorporated. This is an unofficial podcast. No permission has been given by any of the afformentioned parties and, since no money is being made from it, no infringement is intended. Rights to the characters mentioned is neither claimed nor implied.

18. After you've read the story, go back to where you need to edit parts out. Select a piece and press delete on the keyboard.

19. Go to file and export the file as an OGG.

20. Send the file to me at AlexG2490@aol.com or, if it's too large, upload the file to filefront.com and send the download link. I will process it for noise reduction, add some music or sound if it seems appropriate, and have it uploaded.

Good Luck!

Quick Question: if the author of the story you want to do does not have an account on the forums, how are you supposed to ask them if you want to make a podcast for their story?

Erin's Story - Coming Soon!

"James." She whispered.
"Yes, Erin?"
"I'm pregnent."
"Well, I feel sorry for the bloke who knocked you up, then."
She paused. "Your the father."

Where are you getting the story from? We will not accept a podcast without the author's permission.

Oh, okay. I guess I'll choose another story. (My own most likely.)

I was just wondering if it's absolutely essential to use the ogg vorbis format, because I'd prefer to use GarageBand (Mac) which exports to MP3 or AAC. Also, do I say the story is read by the author, or do people assume it's your story if you don't say it isn't?

The above is a guide. The final file for upload must be MP3, so you can submit an MP3 file if you wish.

As for the author reading the story, personally I never assume the reader is the author.

It's up to the reader to make any "small talk" before the story. I think a little intro about the reader or story is aways a nice way to start a story podcast.

Thank you for that advice Jay. I'm glad I can use the program I'm familiar with!!! And yeah, I'll try introducing myself and the story.

hi.
I have a question, do you have to be a staff member or a members elite or something like that to make a podcast? Or can you just be a normal member (like me!)?
Just asking because no one specified that.
Thanks!
-Ice

Also, why is there a thing that says "AVS Media Demo." every 10 seconds?
That is just super annoying.

Hmm this is a really cool idea, but considering my novel is coming up on 200,000 words, it would be a bit of recording. I'm really tempted though.

The Moonlight War (M) Novel: Language, Violence, Sex

Seven friends were born into an era of war, violence, and tradgedy. As such, these things would be unavoidable in their lives.
Love, loyalty, and trust. These would prove much harder to find.

I am considering mine as well. 200k words, would be an effort.

Once I can find something that doesnt record over as a trial version I will give it a try.
